Wallhanging development is a finely honed art form, originally created from clothing scraps. Duffle or stroud material is used as a base or background and felt pieces are sewn onto the base with embroidery thread; some artists fill an entire piece of material with intricate stitches, while others use embroidery threads for accents. Original colours were limited; but today a vast array of colours from subdue to vibrant create simple to elaborate wallhangings in various sizes. Artists have become world renowned for their beautiful designs.
